The Accomodation
You will stay at the Horse Holiday farmhouse or guesthouses in
the neighbourhood - all with a view of the sea.
The rooms have private showers/WC en-suite, and you are welcome
to use our sauna to relax your aching muscles.
The atmosphere is very friendly and riders love to sit together
in the evenings, around the turf fire, to talk about their experiences
of the day.
Single guests are very welcome and are immediately integrated.
The Food
A substantial Irish Breakfast is provided in the offer.
At lunch time you could call to one of the local pubs and in the
evening you can avail of one of the local restaurants for a good
dinner, which would include shell-fish, fresh salmon and lobster
as well as lamb, beef, pork and chicken. Vegetarians are also
catered for. (Lunch and dinner not included in programme) Transport
will be provided for those who do not have their own.
The Horses
Our horse will be yours for at least a week or for as long
as you wish to stay
.
Irish horses have an excellent temperament, they are kind and
easy to handle and ride. Irish horses have a natural jumping ability
and plenty of courage.
The horses on the Horse Holiday Farm are very healthy, well-groomed,
trained, surefooted and unspoilt.
We have horses to suit all abilities of rider.
You and your horse will have plenty of time to get to know one
another.
On arrival, we will match horse and rider. You can look forward
to each day with confidence.
Your Irish horse will take you at a leisurely amble if you wish
and he is also competent at galloping along the sand-dunes and
beaches or jumping the obstacles on the Cross-Country Course.
The jumps on the Cross-Country Course have been designed and selected
to cater for different levels of jumping, so everyone can have
fun.
You can also ride the area where the Cross-Country Course is without
taking the jumps and view our mares and foals, young stock and
deer. The very experienced, as well as the less experienced, are
well catered for with us.
If you can walk, trot, canter and gallop with confidence, we have
the horse and holiday for you
Riding
by the Sea
"O the Opal and Sapphire of the wandering
Western Sea, and the women riding high above with bright hair
flapping free - ."
Thomas Hardy could be describing the scene at Grange, Co. Sligo
on Ireland's Atlantic Sea-board as horse and rider are silhouetted
against the early morning skyscape of Europe's westernmost coastline.
From Horse Holiday Farm you can ride left and right along miles
of sandy beaches.
You can trek along the lanes of the hinterland and mountains,
waterfalls, lakes and historic castles and houses.
This is Yeat's country, from which the famous Irish poet drew
so much inspiration. His presence still lingers in Lissadell House.
In Drumcliffe Churchyard pause to read his epitaph: "Cast a cold
eye on life and death. Horseman pass by".
You can improve your riding skills on our cross-country Course
of 10 miles and over 50 obstacles set on 400 acres.
An experienced guide will show you around, but you are free at
any time, to ride as you please, before breakfast or at sunset.
The horse is yours for the duration of your holiday
, so
you may ride as you please each day. Wednesday is rest-day for
the horses.
This will give you the opportunity to do some shopping or tour
the counties of Sligo and Donegal.
As an individual
or in a group, you will have an unforgettable holiday with lots
of adventure, fun and relaxation.
